SAVANNAH – Magnus "Mack" Eugene Robinson, 84, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012.

Mack was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on May 28, 1927, attended the University of Nebraska, enjoyed a successful career in business, and moved with his wife, Lois, to Savannah in 1987.

A scholar-athlete, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska 1951, a Bachelor of Law from the University of Missouri 1954, and a Master of Law from New York University 1959. Mack was a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Bar Association, and a lawyer admitted to the Bar in the states of New York, Missouri, and Kansas.

Outside of the classroom, Mack was recognized as one of the finest athletes in Norfolk High School's history, receiving "All State" honors in football, basketball, and baseball. At the close of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He went on to be a starter on the basketball team, a star back on the football team, and member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at the University of Nebraska.

He practiced accounting with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. as a CPA in Kansas City, Missouri in the early 50s, taught financial law at the University of New Mexico in the mid 50s, and then joined Shell Oil Company in New York City at the close of the decade, working in the tax and legal departments. During the 60s he was appointed Treasurer of Shell, and then named the General Manager of the Synthetic Rubber Division and later the Polymers Division. In addition to serving as the V.P. and Treasurer of the Shell Oil Company, he held the same position at the INA Corporation and IU International in Philadelphia. After 10 years as V.P. and Treasurer of IU International, he retired in 1985.

He participated in a wide variety of professional organizations and charitable activities, and was a long-time member of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. He thoroughly enjoyed golf, bridge, and being behind the wheel of his convertible. While accomplished in a variety of areas, he often told his children, "The greatest thing I ever did was marry your mom."

Mack was a loving husband of Lois K. Robinson for 60 years; caring father of Linda R. Brown Mark, Graham S. Robinson Jodi, Laura R. Hill John; and proud grandfather of six wonderful grandsons Christopher Brown, Michael Brown, Morgan Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Kirk Robinson, and Rex Hill.

A memorial service is planned for later this summer.
